OverDrive Audio & eBooks

Crete Public Library

Welcome to Crete Public Library’s Virtual Branch ~ OverDrive

With funding from Friends of the Crete Public Library, we are able to provide patrons access to online, downloadable audio books and eBooks. This service, OverDrive, is offered through the Nebraska Library Commission. To use these resources, you’ll need either an individual or a family library card in good standing.

Recently, with additional funding from our Friends group, we were able to add OverDrive Advantage for our patrons.  These titles are exclusively available to Crete patrons.   Access these titles as you would other OverDrive titles  –
log onto the Library’s online catalog from the Library’s home page and search for Crete Advantage or Crete OverDrive.

The audio books are available in two formats: as a WMA audio book or as a MP3 audio book. The website provides information about the many different devices which can be used to download and listen to these two types of audio books.

The eBooks are available in three formats: as an Adobe EPUB eBook, Adobe PDF eBook, or as a Kindle eBook. The website also provides information about the various eBook devices which can be used to download and read these eBooks.

Start with the library’s website at

Next, click the online catalog link toward the top of the page. Then, you will need to login to the catalog with your library card number and your phone number (don’t include area code, unless it is not 402, and omit the dash between the numbers.)

Once you’re logged on to the catalog, search for titles you’d like to download. Titles available from OverDrive will have a location of Internet and a label of _OverDrive. Click on the title, then click on download this item at the next screen.

·         Patrons may borrow a total of four items at one time.

·         Audio books check out for 7 or 14 days.

·         eBooks check out for 7, 14 or 21 days.

When you’ve located a title, click on the book cover. More information will appear about it, including the duration and format of the title, the devices that will play it, a brief summary of the book and author information, and other digital rights information. At this point, the title can be added to your cart to check out, placed on hold if currently checked out, or added to your wish list for future possible check out. While the OverDrive books you check out will be assigned to you, they will not be included in your circulation record on the library’s Apollo online catalog.

Take a tour of OverDrive by clicking on the Guided Tour icon on the lower left hand corner of OverDrive’s home page. This virtual tour provides step by step guidance for using OverDrive, including instructions on how to download and install the free software you will need for accessing these books.  Please ask library staff if you have any questions.
